It’s been a very cold week for us at Media-X, and while it takes more than -40°C (-40°F) wind chills and blowing snow to stop us from coming to work, most of us were reaching the point where our skeletal structure felt like it was encased in ice by Friday.

With this in mind, this week’s team (Team captain Kelly Pratt, Bonnie Homewood and Rob Campbell) decided to go with something that would not only warm the soul, but also the extremities.  Bonnie happens to be the team’s designated “foodie”, and decided the choice would be between chili con carne and chicken pot pie.  In the end, chili came out the victor (I would personally always bet on chili to take out a pot pie in a cage match).

The team opted to stick with a tried and true recipe, but left it up to those of us eating to choose our heat level (ranging from insipid to inferno) depending on our tastes, or simply how much we enjoy pain.

After a night cold enough to turn boiling water into snow simply by tossing it into the air, the chili seemed to do the job of thawing us out quite well.  The weather will probably take a little bit longer…

In the meantime, if you’re suffering from a little bit of winter blues, try out our chili recipe!

 The Recipe

  • about 2kg of ground beef
  • 4 onions
  • 7 cloves of garlic (chopped)
  • 2 big cans of diced tomatoes
  • 1 can of tomato paste
  • 2 big cans of kidney beans
  • salt, pepper, cumin, chili powder

Brown your onions and garlic and then add the ground beef and cook until browned.  Then dump in all the tomatoes and beans.  Season to your taste and cook the heck out of it.
